August 21, 2015

I was awakened by thunder at 4:30am and couldn’t get back to sleep.  My back was almost back to normal.  Since I had enjoyed trail work with a crew so much earlier in the week, I decided to give it a try again, but resolved to only stay half of the day so I didn’t hurt my back too badly again.    There were only three of the trail crew there that day.  Christian and I did get along well, but I wasn’t sorry to find out that he has a girlfriend.  Mark also mentioned his girlfriend.  I wasn’t sorry.  He was too young for me and his character wasn’t what I tend to look for in a guy anyway.  Then I met Brandon.  He wasn’t there last week.  As soon as I met him,  he affixed his gorgeous blue eyes on me.  Throughout the morning, he kept finding excuses to talk to me and I kept finding his eyes turned towards me more oftener than politeness required.  I had to keep reminding myself that I wasn’t looking for anybody.  I still made sure to leave after a half a day, but Brandon’s blue eyes made me want to return for reasons other than just enjoying the trail work.

When I left, I drove back to the retreat center.  While the retreats there are free, they suggest a donation.  I didn’t have the money to donate, so I decided to come up and help them out wherever they needed it.  There were two retreats happening this weekend, so I figured they could use the help.  I was given a room.  It had four beds in it and I had one roommate at first.  Then she found her friend was staying there and wanted to room with her, so she left.  I went to bed early.  I was very tired from both waking up early and the trail work. As I drifted off to sleep, I distinctly heard someone say my name aloud, although I was the only one in the room. The voice was male and vaguely familiar, but I couldn’t place it.

I’m not sure what time it was, but I got a new roommate.  She came in sometime after I was asleep.  She tried to get settled in quickly.  When she was almost ready for bed, two other women came in too.  One on crutches with an apparent cast.  We were on the second floor, so her friend went to see if they could get a room on the first floor.  We waited for her to return.  They both left, so it was just me and the one roommate.  We talked a lot, but I can’t actually remember much of the conversation.  Finally, I was able to drift back to sleep again.
