I awoke with my alarm clock. I was excited because I was going to do trail work today. I had realized that since I hike so much, I wanted to give back in a way that mattered.  I had considered becoming a trail maintainer, but today I was going to volunteer on a trail crew.  I wasn’t sure what the difference was, but I suspected that today I would find out.   When I arrived, I was surprised to realize that I knew some of the other volunteers. I worked at the top of the current section of trail and side-hilling. They explained that side-hilling is when you cut the trail out of the side of a hill.  It’s a lot more complex than that, but it came pretty naturally to me.

I spent my time chatting with Tracy. She was a friendly sort and kept trying to get me to go out hiking or backpacking with her. I was a bit backpacked out, so I made my excuses, but it was still nice that she offered.    I thought she was part of the trail crew, but she was apparently with another crew that was helping out.  I never realized how many trail crews there are out there! They had a large group coming today, so her crew had come to help out. I really didn’t get to know any of the local crew since they were busy with the larger group. One thing that people kept saying was “You’ll get along really well with Christian.” After my recent vague resolution, I was hoping they weren’t trying to set me up with the guy. Thankfully, I really didn’t see much of him all day.

I got home sore, tired, and content. Then the friend of mine who was engaged and is now married contacted me for a massage and possibly more. His wife had apparently brought up the subject and stated that because they’re not living together full time, he was free to do stuff with other people so long as she does not know about it. I was a little hesitant for a few reasons. First, there was no way for me to check if what he said was true. Second, hadn’t I just resolved something? And third, I really hadn’t had a chance to enjoy the last two times we tried to do stuff. I was really sore and really wanted the massage, so I said we’d massage and then see what happens, with no intention of doing anything. He arrived and I insisted on getting my massage first. After my massage was over, it was his turn to get one. And the next thing I knew, we were kissing, etc. We eventually had sex, but again, I was not able to enjoy it fully. I decided after he left that since it was clearly not fun for me, I needed to stop this. As much as I hated to say it, no more massages.
