I spent most of the day driving. It was a long drive taking most of the day. Thankfully, it was an uneventful trip, made longer by several encounters with construction. When I arrived, there was already a line for check-in at the campground. This is unusual as most people did not arrive on the first day. I was one of the planners for this event and nobody was allowed to set up until all of the planners arrived and discussed several points with the owners of the campground. We are a large group, usually totaling about 1,000 people by the second week. We take over two campgrounds that are in close proximity to accommodate our numbers.
Because of the construction and the long check-in lines (the campground workers did not anticipate our numbers either) and not all of the planners were there and available until 9:30pm. We spent about an hour in negotiations and then were able to start setting up our tents in the agreed-upon areas. I had just gotten the roof frame of my large tent set up when a family, who had already finished setting up their tent due to their numbers, came over and helped me. I was able to fall asleep around 11:30pm.
