February 2, 2015

Today the school I work at was closed. I stayed at home and tried to get work done. Again, I got distracted by a big project. At least this particular project was one that needed to get done. Because I was sick, I was very behind on grading papers. I spent several hours catching up.

With this month’s focus, I have decided to focus on one area at a time. I live in a studio apartment, so my focus will be on the living room/bedroom since that is where I spend most of my time. Once the obvious things get done, I will move on to the kitchen. I am starting with any visible clutter in each room. Then when all visible clutter is taken care of in my whole apartment, I will go through cabinets, drawers, and closets.

With the cleaning, I will do the obvious cleaning in each room like dusting, sweeping, mopping, etc. I will save the really specialized, nitpicky stuff for later, like baseboards, cleaning under the furniture, dusting the top of door and picture frames, etc.

Today I decided to start with the dusting. I started in one area of the room and went clockwise. I don’t think I’ve dusted this place more than once since I’ve moved in. It took all 15 minutes to dust, and it’s not like it’s a terribly large room. What took so long was having to move everything off of every flat surface dust under it, then replacing the items. In some cases, the items were decorative. In other cases, the items were there because I used them a lot and it was convenient to keep them there. Even though I didn’t get to de-cluttering/straightening up today, I decided that my focus the next time that I do would be to find ways to have less things on each flat surface. That way, it’ll be easier to dust next time.

My back hurt all day. I kept waiting for the point in the storm where my back starts to feel better, but that point never came. I went to the chiropractor later in the day. The adjustment hurt worse than usual, but I actually felt some relief afterwards, which was new.

Bryan called me later in the evening and we talked until past midnight. I was very thankful that my school had decided to have a two hour delay tomorrow!
De-cluttering and cleaning: I cleaned for 15 minutes but did not de-clutter.

Hygiene: I showered but I did not brush my teeth today.

Mood and temperament: I felt pretty blah today. I interacted with nobody except on my phone call with Bryan, so temperament wasn’t really an issue today.
